For me personally, lineage was a factor in choosing my Reiki Master as I wanted the most traditional line I could find. I was pleased to find a Master that had received their teachings directly from Doi Hiroshi who is a current member of the highly secretive Japanese Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai. The Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai is a Japanese organisation that highly respects the teachings of Mikao Usui and has endeavoured to protect the traditional teachings in their original form. The only way one can join the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai is by personal invitation and the Gakkai is not open to foreign students. However it must also be said that ultimately I got so much more than my lineage from the Master course that I attended and more than anything I am privileged to have learnt from Frans Stiene because of what I have learnt rather than where it has come from and I am grateful to both Frans and Bronwen for all their ongoing handwork researching traditional Reiki and Usui Mikao and also for expelling some of the modern myths that surround Reiki in modern times.

The single and most important step on your Reiki journey, choosing a Reiki Master will seem daunting at first but once you have decided what is important to you in a Reiki Master the decision will become much easier.

Below are some of the factors to consider when choosing your master followed by a detailed examination of each factor.

A well known society in Japan that was formed after the passing of Usui Mikao with Usui Mikao named as the honourary first president. The Usui Reiki ryoho Gakkai was set up in various cities throughout Japan.

Members meet on a regular (often weekly) basis to practice techniques under the guidance of head teachers or Shihan.

The Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai is a closed society and one can only gain entry by invitation therefore many of its secrets remain untold. 

Variation of courses available - Things to consider:

When you first attempted to ride a bike or take a swim, how would you have felt without your stabilisers or your water wings ? This is how some people are taught Reiki, courses which cram Reiki 1, 2 and sometimes even 3 into just one day are available! In theory this would mean you could complete all your Reiki training in a day and go off and start to teach other people Reiki..... a very scarey concept indeed! Just like being thrown into the water and left to sink or swim.

However, besides from the issues of how can you learn it all in just one day, would you even want to A Reiki 1 attunement can be a very profound experience and further to your attunement you will want time to adjust to the energy and to discover the changes Reiki brings to you and your life. I have found the process of each attunement exciting and eagerly awaited my next step. Reiki 1, 2 and 3 will each bring their own things to the mix and to experience and adjust to each one individually is really, in my opinion, the only way to experience becoming Reiki. Experiencing Reiki in this way also means that you have the full knowledge and experience of each attunement and its effects so that when it becomes your turn to teach you will have experienced all the steps for themselves and have the ability to share this with your pupils.

On top of adjusting to the new experience of feeling the energies in and around you, you are also taught to use Reiki in many ways to assist you in your life or if you are completing a more advanced course you will be taught how to assist others.

When the time comes that you finally decide to embark on your first Reiki course, as I have already mentioned, it can be a little daunting trying to decide on a Reiki Master.

It is only really once you begin your path that you start to feel clear about what is right for you. This is one of the reasons why I suggest that you join me for a chat or call me for a chat before signing up for a course. 

During my Reiki journey I have made many discoveries about Reiki and its variations. Western Reiki is taught from a very different perspective than Japanese Reiki and it is up to the individual which route feels right for them. For me personally, having discovered Japanese Reiki I could not possibly look back as it has been such a positive and life changing experience and a path I shall continue to travel down with glee.

As I have already mentioned, I teach Japanese lineage Usui Reiki Ryoho. It is a life changing experience to have your very first attunement with many people even experiencing profound feelings during the actual attunement itself.

On such a life changing journey it is of such importance to have an open minded Reiki Master as everyones experience and interpretation of their journey is entirely unique. A Reiki Master will give you your attunement to Reiki and all the background information that you need to get started, after that they should offer support and advice when required but otherwise remain quietly in the background whilst your journey unfolds before you.

 

Level I is a very exciting level as it is the very first step on your Reiki journey.

After completing a Shoden course you will have all the tools to enable your self healing journey to begin. Using the tools on a daily basis will help to speed up positive change in your life, aid you in releasing emotional, spiritual or physical blocks in your life and help to give you a more positive outlook on life.

Once you have obtained Shoden level you can begin using Reiki on yourself daily to help with physical ailments, and mental or spiritual issues you may have. Reiki is a wonderful source of pain relief and I often use Reiki to ease an aching joint or pounding head. It is as simple as laying your hands on and using the intent that Reiki flow. In time you will build a stronger connection to Reiki and may even find that it flows before you have even asked it too, helping to keep you balanced.

Even though Okuden is known as the level to take if you wish to become a Reiki Practitioner, it is a level well worth taking even if you do not wish to practice professionally. Okuden level will give you even more tools with which to expand your personal energetic practice.

Okuden level builds on all that has been learnt in the Shoden level, expanding on your knowledge, development and practical techniques.

 

After completing an Okuden course with me you will have all the tools to begin working with the public should you wish to do so and you will also gain a deeper understanding or Reiki.

Okuden level is an exciting level provides you with the tools to be able to provide Reiki treatments for others, some of the things you will receive on our Okuden course are:

Shinpiden level is not only the final level of teachings but is also the very begining of everything as you finally have the means to begin working with Reiki to its fullest extent. You can now learn how to integrate Reiki to its fullest in your every day life. You can also go on to teach the three levels of Reiki to others.

Following a Shinpiden course with me you will have all the tools to Teach Reiki to others should you wish to do so. Shinpiden is not the end of your Reiki journey but is actually the real begining.

I will be available to students via e-mail and also via telephone, I will be available unless teaching or treating clients in which case if a message is left for me I will return the call at my nearest opportunity. Telephone numbers will be given to students following completion of their relevant course/s.

 

Once a month I hold Reiki share , these are an opportunity for students to practice, discuss experiences and share Reiki. Dates and times will be available to students upon completion of their relevant course/s.

Further to your Shoden course I am happy to offer advice on websites to visit, books to read etc to further your Reiki knowledge. I am also happy to help you establish a routine that you can work with to integrate Reiki into your every day life and offer advice on areas that you may be struggling.

 

Further to your Okuden course I am happy to offer advice on teaching, information on setting up your own Reiki practice, advertising advice and ideas, help with setting up of the required forms for running your own Reiki practice and things to consider and places you can go to for extra advice.

 

Once you complete a Shinpiden course with us your life's journey lays before you in a whole new light!
